Description

Over ten years ago, I gave up on Dungeons and Dragons (the tabletop RPG, you know) because obviously it was all about the rules, creating new characters and, oh, of course, dying. Roll-play was the thing, role-play scared the hell out of everyone else in that group but my then partner, and, well, eventually, it devolved into me not joining and asking "how many survived today?" afterwards, as I stayed home instead. (This was in edition 3.5, or just after it had been released, or maybe even plain 3).

One character I really liked though, was 16-year old little ox-cart driver Fuurai 風来 (pun much intended! "Fuu" means "wind" in Japanese, and "fuurai" is also "future"), an Air Genasi. She had a nice outlook on things and I loved her looks. I found an old drawing of her, in shabby clothes on an ox cart, months ago, because I went looking for her old character sheet. Alas, the DM must've kept it, I could not find it. So when time came for me to be a guest player in a running campaign, I made her right back from scratch. It was always her I wanted to guest as.

Rogue (Scout from "Xanathar's guide..."), and I rolled her stats so well I was a bit embarrassed. Which is new to me! There were a few years where I refused to roll any dice at all. It was me and Will Wheaton, I tell you...
The night before my first appearance, I sat up a bit too late, inspired and excited, and painted. She's older than the first little Fuurai, at level 10 now, but still as keen on travelling the world and feeling even more wind in her hair (it's always there already).

It's no secret that Critical Role is a massive hit. And it's thanks to CR that I learned that oh, DnD can be ROLEplaying! Where the system is just... like any other rules system. And the DM is just a storyteller, and you're all in it together, to have fun.

I've even picked up painting minis again. Fancy that.
